[edit] 1 RUNS

[edit] 1.1 Run1

  1. Run #1
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at ONE hour into the model run.

[edit] 1.2 Run2

  1. Run #2

[edit] 1.3 Run3

  1. Run #3
    • Image:Brian Curtis 081508 2 movie 10519.gif
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at FOUR hours into the model run. The main idea behind these runs was to test to see if the CCMC was allowing the models to run with the initial parameters before starting the requested simulation. The CCMC appears to be conditioning the simulations.

[edit] 1.4 Run4

  1. Run #4
    • Image:Brian Curtis 090308 1 movie 4915.gif
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at FOUR hours into the model run but this time we changed the density to 3 to be able to compare how a lower density solar wind will effect the response of the magnetosphere to the Bz change. Here is where we started the idea of comparing differing solar wind densities and their impacts on the magnetosphere

[edit] 1.5 Run5

  1. Run #5
    • Image:Brian Curtis 100608 1 movie 30651.gif
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at TWO hours into the model run but this time we changed By to 0 and Denstiy is 7 to compare how a higher density solar wind will effect the response of the magnetosphere to the Bz change, this run is in comparison to run #6.

[edit] 1.6 Run6

  1. Run #6
    • Image:Brian Curtis 100608 2 movie 427.gif
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at TWO hours into the model run but this time we changed By to 0 and Denstiy is 3 to compare how a lower density solar wind will effect the response of the magnetosphere to the Bz change, this run is in comparison to run #5.

[edit] 1.7 Run7

  1. Run #7
    • Image:Brian Curtis 101508 1 movie 22640.gif
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at TWO hours into the model run but this time we changed By to 0 and Denstiy is 7 to compare how a higher density solar wind will effect the response of the magnetosphere to the Bz change, this run is in comparison to run #8, we wanted plane symmetry.
    • The Bz shock comes in at around 2:00 into the run, and causes the dayside magnetopause to compress. As this compression happens there gradual rise in the maximum conductivity and it appears to become more "condensed" where the areas of higher concentration are. In the magnetosphere, at around an hour after the initial Bz shock, the compression of the magnetosphere stabilizes and it appears as if the model shows some reconnection. At this point in the ionosphere there is an expansion in the area where the higher concentrations of conductivity are and the maximum conductivity lowers for one frame after (10 minutes) and then rises fast after the reconnection has happened and a blob of magnetic field/plasma start moving tailward. At 5:10 into the run there is an even faster and higher spike in the maximum conductivity right after a slight decrease in the maximum conductivity. In the magnetosphere, it is difficult to recognize if reconnection is whats happening, but there is something that does happen with the magnetic field lines at that time.

[edit] 1.8 Run9

  1. Run #9

[edit] 1.9 Run8

  1. Run #8
    • Image:Brian Curtis 101508 2 movie 26586.gif
    • Notes: This run was set to explore how a -10 change (5 to -5) in Bz would effect the magnetosphere at TWO hours into the model run but this time we changed By to 0 and Denstiy is 3 to compare how a lower density solar wind will effect the response of the magnetosphere to the Bz change, this run is in comparison to run #7, we wanted plane symmetry.
